Reading 100 Books in a Year: A Christian Perspective

As New Years approaches, I wanted to do something a little different than the New Years resolutions I have done in the past. All of my resolutions have always seemed to be centered around losing weight, eating healthier, or changing money habits. In looking at my life and what I would like to do, the top one is sitting on the sofa mindlessly scrolling while watching tv. It negatively impacts so many things including my mood, energy level, and my time with the Lord. I’ve heard of several people trying to read 100 books in a year. This year I thought I would give it a try!

Why reading? First of all, I enjoy it. It’s selfish time! Grabbing a cozy blanket, a hot cup of tea (lavender and chamomile please!) and a good book and I’m whisked away into a completely different world…or a different version of the world I’m already in. Second, reading is a way to keep your mind active instead of numbing your senses on social media feeds. Scripture tells us in several places to alert and ready. 1 Thessalonians 5:6 says, “So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.” Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” Obviously, the best way to do this is to dive into the Bible itself, but it is also helpful to hear other points of view on Bible interpretations, Christianity doctrine, discipleship, and numerous other topics.

I am starting a little early this year to give myself a little extra time. By December 31, 2026, I hope to have completed and reviewed 100 books. I will attempt to post a review on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Most will be Christian in nature. A few may be fiction just to change the pace once in a while. We’ll see…

For months, I have been waiting for a book to come out…”No More Boring Bible Study” by Faith Womack. Seems like a great place to begin!

If you have any favorites, please make recommendations. I have a small list compiled already, but would love feedback on what has moved or inspired you!
